SPRINGFIELD Baystate Medical Center will begin work over the next few months on its $208 million buildout of unfinished space once dubbed the “Hospital of the Future.”
Now called the MassMutual Wing, the 640,000-square-foot, seven-floor addition already has Baystate’s emergency departments and the Davis Family Heart & Vascular Center.
The project which got approval from the state Department of Public Health in December will go out to bid in the next few weeks, said Kirsten Waltz, Baystate Health’s director of facilities planning and design. ....

Springfield opens latest round of proposals for marijuana businesses, including up to 4 more retail stores and 1 cultivation site

SPRINGFIELD City officials on Tuesday announced the opening of the second round of applications for marijuana businesses, which will include up to four more retail shops and at least one cultivation facility.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno said the process will continue his administration’s goal of “maximizing the city’s revenue potential” and creating new jobs, “while balancing the concerns of our residents, neighborhoods and public safety.”
Business will offer public presentations on March 11 and 12, and formal proposals are due by March 22, the city said. Sarno said the city plans to announce companies selected for negotiations on April 12, though the timeline could vary. ....

SPRINGFIELD A business planning a marijuana shop, co-owned by former City Councilor Timothy Rooke, is hoping to open by July with a new partner, Rooke said.
Rooke and other business representatives will present the proposed ownership change and other details at a City Council public hearing on Monday, conducted by remote due to the coronavirus pandemic. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.
The business, 311 Page Blvd. LLC, is planning the adult-use marijuana shop at that address at the corner of Guion Street in East Springfield, formerly the Crossfit Journey gym. ....

Four organizations each received checks for $736.25 as part of the Unionport Chapter No. 360 Order of the Eastern Star’s sponsorship of Wreaths Across America observances held in December at six cemeteries in Jefferson County that were first-time registrants in 2020. Those cemeteries were Pine Run, Unionport, Bloomingdale, Shaffer Cemetery in McIntyre and Mount Moriah Cemetery in Wayne Township and East Springfield Cemetery in Salem Township. Because the OES chapter was a sponsoring fundraising chapter, it received $5 back from each wreath sold with the funds to benefit another cause, according to LeAnn Gibbons, worthy matron of the Unionport Chapter. Gibbons presented a check to James Bruder, chairman of the board, Friends of the Pittsburgh Fisher House, a place for families with veterans in the hospital to stay, free of charge.
