Thousands in Craven, Jones and Pamlico counties rely on free food


There are also many nonprofits who offer support for those needs with free food distributions.  
But they are always in need of assistance themselves, with money and food donations. 
Here are six of the many giving groups that are worthy of support. 
Religious Community Services  
The Community Kitchen, 919 George St., New Bern. provides hot meals, available to go from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m., Monday through Saturday and 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Sunday. 
The Food Pantry is dispensing groceries daily. Clients needing assistance are asked to call RCS at 633-2767. Requests will be taken by phone and instructions given on how the client should proceed. For other requests from Client Services, call 633-2767.  ....

East Springfield marijuana store seeks summer opening with new partner

SPRINGFIELD A business planning a marijuana shop, co-owned by former City Councilor Timothy Rooke, is hoping to open by July with a new partner, Rooke said.
Rooke and other business representatives will present the proposed ownership change and other details at a City Council public hearing on Monday, conducted by remote due to the coronavirus pandemic. The meeting starts at 6:30 p.m.
The business, 311 Page Blvd. LLC, is planning the adult-use marijuana shop at that address at the corner of Guion Street in East Springfield, formerly the Crossfit Journey gym. ....
