Jenny Kate Smith, 79, of Chattanooga, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 11, 2021
She was preceded in death by her parents; Millard B. Chase and Eloise Fitzgerald; and also her brother, Burke Chase.
Jenny is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Jerry D. Smith; her children, Denise (Greg) Evans and Victor (Sue) Smith; and her grandchildren, Aubrey Smith, Garrett Smith, Riley Evans, and Shelby Evans.
Jenny was born in Cleveland, Tn., and graduated from Bradley Central High School. She studied and graduated from Erlanger Nursing School as a registered nurse. Jenny worked at Erlanger and was a much beloved nurse at Tyner Junior High School. She became the Assistant Nursing Director at Life Care of Collegedale and Hamilton County Nursing Home. Jenny worked, until her retirement, as Director of Nursing at NHC Rossville. ....

Roy Exum has once again brought up his support for metro government in Hamilton County. There are some matters that need consideration before putting it to a vote.
Why do so many homeowners choose to live outside Chattanooga city limits, whether in other cities within Hamilton County, or in the unincorporated areas?
I am sure that part of the reason behind people choosing to reside in Signal Mountain, Walden, Lookout Mountain, Red Bank, Soddy-Daisy, Collegedale, East Ridge or Ridgeside, or in the uncorporated parts of the county has to do with the less restrictive government there, plus the general incompetence of mayors like Andy Berke and the Chattanooga City Council. ....

Teacher At Hamilton County Schools Receives National Award For Excellence

Hamilton County Schools teacher Erika Martin was awarded the California Casualty Award for Teaching Excellence by the National Education Association Foundation.
The California Casualty Awards for Teaching Excellence winners are selected based on their dedication to the profession, community engagement, professional development, attention to diversity and advocacy for fellow educators. Ms. Martin, an instructional coach at East Side Elementary, is one of only 46 public school educators in the country to receive the award.
“Mrs. Martin is an exemplary educator, and we are proud to have her serve in Hamilton County Schools,” said Dr. Bryan Johnson, superintendent of Hamilton County Schools. “Her role as an instructional coach positions her well to influence and develop excellent teachers across our district. This truck belonged to Silas Hall s Transfer Line just after World War I. It was used for hauling freight from the NP (Northern Pacific Railroad) depot to stores around town as well as for other kinds of moving. The picture was taken in front of the railroad freight office. Before the truck, Silas Hal used teams of horses and wagons which he kept at 415 Main (now Washington Street).
