Columbia, CA – While working on an unrelated incident recently, a Sonora Unit CHP officer spotted a motorcycle driving erratically in the Columbia area and gave pursuit.
The rider of the 2002 Suzuki motorcycle with no license plate sped away from the patrol vehicle that had its siren and lights signaling him to pull over. The chase reached speeds of over 70 mph as the bike winded its way through the Columbia area on Parrotts Ferry Road.
Suddenly, say CHP officials, the suspect, later identified as 49-year-old Steven Berrigan of Chico, turned westbound onto Gold Springs Drive. Updated Fire in Douglas Flat area
Update at 12 p.m.: CAL Fire dispatch reports that the steep and rocky terrain is making it difficult for firefighters to get a hose line around the blaze burning in the Douglas Flat area of Calaveras County. The acreage remains between 4 and 5 acres with no structures threatened. The flames broke out in the brush along Camp Nine Road above some water tanks near Ponderosa Way, off Parrotts Ferry Road.

Vallecito, CA – Parking along Parrotts Ferry Road to get to the Natural Bridges Trailhead and New Melones Lake in Vallecito could get costly for visitors.
Parked vehicles, especially on weekends and holidays, could be seen stretched along the roadway at both attractions. Some drove over curbs to park on the grass and others were dangerously close to the road’s edge, which brought objections to the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors. At its meeting last week, the board adopted a resolution that established “No Parking” zones and “Fire Lanes” on the roadway.
