Vallecito, CA – A caller reporting a deceased male led to the arrest of a Vallecito man for murder.
The suspect, 55-year-old Donald Baldwin, is accused of shooting another man in the Camp 9 Road area of Vallecito in Calaveras County. The name of the victim, who is a 40- to 50-year-old male, is not being released pending notification of family, according to sheriff’s spokesperson LT. Greg Stark.
Investigators worked through the night and into mid-morning today processing the crime scene, which is located about four miles in from Parrotts Ferry Road just past the shooting quarry on a dirt road. They also interviewed five to ten witnesses, while evaluating and collecting evidence.
Updated Fire in Douglas Flat area
Update at 12 p.m.: CAL Fire dispatch reports that the steep and rocky terrain is making it difficult for firefighters to get a hose line around the blaze burning in the Douglas Flat area of Calaveras County. The acreage remains between 4 and 5 acres with no structures threatened. The flames broke out in the brush along Camp Nine Road above some water tanks near Ponderosa Way, off Parrotts Ferry Road.
Camp Nine Road at Parrotts Ferry Road and the Camp Nine Bypass remain closed.

Vallecito, CA – Parking along Parrotts Ferry Road to get to the Natural Bridges Trailhead and New Melones Lake in Vallecito could get costly for visitors.
Parked vehicles, especially on weekends and holidays, could be seen stretched along the roadway at both attractions. Some drove over curbs to park on the grass and others were dangerously close to the road’s edge, which brought objections to the Calaveras County Board of Supervisors. At its meeting last week, the board adopted a resolution that established “No Parking” zones and “Fire Lanes” on the roadway.
