Meet the Bishopbriggs swimmer who has won gold at the European Junior Championships A TEENAGER has impressed by becoming one of the most successful British swimmers ever at the European Junior Championships. Katie Shanahan won six medals at the competition in Rome last week, beating the no1 ranked junior swimmer in the world in her gold medal events. The 17-year-old from Bishopbriggs won two gold, three silver, and one bronze and completed 16 competitive swims over the course of five days, making her one of the most successful British swimmers ever at the European Championships. The Bishopbriggs Academy pupil said: “I m over the moon with my results during my week in Rome at the European Junior Championships. I knew I was in good shape and felt pretty confident in my abilities going into the meet. I was ranked quite high for most of my events, so I hoped to continue that form and win a couple of medals, but I never expected to win medals in every event. It was a great

Today officially marks the start of UK Sport’s new female coaches leadership programme with 27 coaches from 15 sports coming together as part of a plan to more than double representation in the Olympic and Paralympic high-performance community by Paris 2024.
Eight coaches, including the addition of highly-respected duo Jane Figueiredo (diving) and Claire Morrison (boccia), will lead a six-month programme for 19 of the most promising coaches in the UK, all of whom have been identified as having the potential to coach at the summer and winter Olympic and Paralympic Games from Paris 2024 and beyond.
Figueiredo and Morrison join Paula Dunn (para athletics), Kate Howey (judo), Mel Marshall (swimming), Bex Milnes (para triathlon) and Tracy Whittaker-Smith (trampolining) as coach leaders while Karen Brown, who spent over 15 years as a coach for Great Britain Hockey and England Hockey, will act as a mentor throughout.
