In a normal year, Gavin Coleman would spend weeks leading up to St. Patrick’s Day planning for a multi-day celebration at his family’s 47 year-old Capitol Hill pub, the Dubliner. He’d book Irish dancers and musicians, order over 100 kegs, and hire extra staff and security to accommodate the throngs of revelers coming through the door including, one year, President Obama, who dropped in for a pint. And now?
“I think a lot of the St.Patrick’s Day business will go out to Virginia,” says Coleman, who’s planning a more modest celebration here in DC. He’ll offer seated indoor and outdoor streetery reservations, plus a morning sandwich pop-up. “DC has more strict regulations,” he says. “The Dub is known for live Irish music we haven’t had it in a year. We won’t be able to use our bars. It’s tough it’s been tough during this whole pandemi ....

'Clarendon Popup' Prepares for New Theme, March Festivities

(Updated at 12:15 p.m.)Clarendon Popup Bar, located inside the former Clarendon Ballroom space, is about to shift to its second theme.
The concept bar opened at 3185 Wilson Blvd in time to ring in the New Year with its temporary theme, “Winter Wonderland.” That theme will still be in effect this weekend, but will then be changed over the course of the following week. (An earlier version of this article incorrectly said that it would be closed this weekend.)
“Winter Wonderland was a success and more popular than anticipated,” owner Mike Bramson tells ARLnow. “The next theme is ‘Fire & Ice.’ We don’t want to give anything anyway, so you’ll have to come see it.” ....

A Mexican Bar on U Street Is Topping Takeout Pizzas With Taco Ingredients

Rebel Taco Cantina doesn’t plan to reopen on U Street NW until D.C.’s indoor dining restrictions allow at least 50 percent capacity, so in the meantime, the short-lived Mexican bar is turning into a pizza pop-up that sells wood-fired pies topped with taco fillings and drizzled with jalapeno-infused oil.
The pop-up, dubbed Rebel Margherita, will start selling a menu of 11-inch Neapolitan-style pizzas for takeout and delivery at 1214 U Street NW from Wednesday, February 3, through at least the end of the month. Hours are 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday and Sunday; and Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. ....

Clarendon Popup Opening Delayed, Could Open Before New Years

After some delays, Clarendon Popup could be hosting live entertainment and dancing in the former Clarendon Ballroom space by the end of December.
The new opening day would be almost exactly one year after the event and nightlife spot at 3185 Wilson Blvd closed after New Year’s Eve in 2019. Owners anticipated the first popup with a “Winter Wonderland” theme would open around this time in December, but the holidays have set them back.
“We are aiming to open by the end of the month pending no further delays,” owner Mike Bramson said in an email, adding that the popup has been set back by “typical internal delays, such as equipment arriving on time given the holidays.” ....

NEW: 'The Lot' Owners to Open Pop-up in Former Clarendon Ballroom Space

The owners of The Lot, the popular outdoor beer garden near Clarendon, are planning a new seasonal pop-up in a familiar space.
“[We] are converting the iconic Clarendon Ballroom into a rotating, multilevel pop-up and event venue,” The Lot co-owner Mike Bramson confirmed this afternoon, after an inquiry from ARLnow.
Bramson said the temporary venue at 3185 Wilson Blvd which has applied for permits to serve beer, wine and cocktails will initially be dubbed “Winter Wonderland on Wilson.” The holiday-themed pop-up is expected to open in December and run through New Years.
So far there’s no word on what concept will follow. ....
