CLOSE to 100 people received free cancer screenings, consultations, counselling and health education last weekend following the first in a series of mobile health clinics being executed by the Faces of Cancer Saint Lucia.

The activities were made possible following the Faces of Cancer Saint Lucia’s recent acquisition of a new portable ultrasound machine and other well needed medical supplies provided by the Sandals Foundation in March this year. ....

St. Johns County parents urge officials to fix student walkway

The problem, parents say, is that some Liberty Pines Academy students who live in the subdivision walk or bike to and from the K-8 school along a walkway adjacent to the entrance ramp to State Road 9B where cars routinely race by at speeds in excess of 60 miles per hour.

scientist sound the alarm insects vulnerable to extinction,

Entomologist
Akito Kawahara says,  We can’t live without insects. They’re in trouble. And there’s something all of us can do to help.
Kawahara’s research has primarily focused on answering fundamental questions about moth and butterfly evolution, according to a news release from the Florida Museum of Natural History. Kawahara is increasingly haunted by studies that sound the alarm about plummeting insect numbers and diversity.
While scientists differ on the severity of the problem, many findings point to a general downward trend, with one study estimating 40% of insect species are vulnerable to extinction. In response, Kawahara has turned his attention to boosting people’s appreciation for some of the world’s most misunderstood animals.  ....
