Pleas for drivers to slow down near north-east school as more pupils return to class

As more pupils return to classrooms, pleas have gone out to drivers using a north-east route notorious for speeding to slow down.
And after one was caught travelling at double the speed limit, at 61mph, and another at 60mph, calls have being renewed for drivers to slow down as more pupils return to primary schools this week.
Local resident Gary Thomson said he has seen lorries mounting the pavement on Hospital Road as high speeds force them into “dangerous actions”. ....

A speed survey has clocked two cars travelling at double the speed limit on a north-east road.
Aberdeenshire Council carried out the survey on Hospital Road in Ellon and it revealed that 54% of motorists were travelling above the 30mph speed limit.
The speeds of 14,352 motorcycles, cars, vans and trucks were recorded over the period of a week in February.
One vehicle was caught travelling at double the speed limit at 61mph and another at 60mph.
Bikers were caught doing 40mph, van drivers 53mph and truck drivers were recorded reaching speeds of 47mph. ....

A 36-year-old man was caught speeding at more than 120mph on a busy Aberdeen road at the weekend.

A £1million extension of an Aberdeenshire primary school has been completed.
The expansion of Hillside Primary, near Portlethen took a year, and will provide more learning space for youngsters – with four classrooms, additional space for music and drama and communal areas created.
The opening of the new £1.1 million facility also means Aberdeenshire Council remains on track to meet requirements for extra childcare. ....
