News from the courts A teenager who tried to break down a neighbour’s door using a ladder has been put on probation for 18 months. Morgan John Ritchie admitted offences of property damage and provoking behaviour. Magistrates also ordered him to pay £103.10 compensation for some window blinds which were damaged. As we have previously reported, 17-year-old Ritchie and a juvenile had attempted to enter the property just after midnight on October 27. Ritchie was said to have kicked the front door then picked up a ladder and started hitting the door with it. The juvenile then tried to get in through a side window. ....
News from the courts A 42-year-old woman has admitted being involved in money laundering after she tried to send £5,000 cash in the post. Lisa Kim Barnett was arrested after a package intended for an address in Walton, Liverpool, was intercepted at the Post Office sorting office. It was found to contain a box of Milk Tray chocolates with £5,000 in cash hidden in the bottom of the box. She pleaded guilty to a charge of attempting to remove criminal property from the island and will be sentenced on January 22 next year after a probation report has been completed. Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that police were called to the sorting office on June 11. ....

Stonegate Homes has won permission to build 148 flats at a former industrial site in Green Street, Enfield Highway. The decision means three blocks of up to five, 12 and 16 storeys can be built at the site, subject to the Mayor of London’s approval. The blocks will be significantly taller than the two-storey semi-detached homes to the north of the site, as well as the three and four-storey flats to the south and south-west. ....
News from the courts A 23-year-old has been sentenced to 80 hours of community service after admitting being drunk and disorderly at the Rovers Return. Zachary Thomas Hardy, of Central Promenade, Douglas, became aggressive with staff and paramedics after passing out in the pub. He told police later that he had been taking prescription medication before drinking. Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court how Hardy became unconscious in the bar on November 30 at 8.45pm. Staff could not wake him and he began sliding onto the floor. An ambulance was called but prior to its arrival he awoke and became aggressive, behaving erratically and waving his arms around. ....
News from the courts A bouncer has been sentenced to 150 hours community service after being convicted of assaulting a woman. Kenneth William Taisia had denied the offence but was found guilty by magistrates after a trial. The offence was said to involve Taisai pulling the woman’s hair in what was described by magistrates as ’excessive force’ when trying to stop her entering a smoking area of the Outback club on December 28 last year. A probation report said that the 43-year-old had moved to the island in 2002 from the Solomon Islands. The report said he was a plumber by trade but was currently working at the meat plant. ....
