There are calls for a coordinated taskforce to be established following the recent fire that devastated parts of Killarney National Park.
Sinn Féin TD Pa Daly says lessons must be learned from this incident.

ANYONE RESPONSIBLE FOR lighting fires which engulfed parts of Killarney National Park should face the “full rigours of the law”, the Irish Farmers’ Association (IFA) has said.
Thousands of acres of Killarney National Park were set alight on Saturday, prompting a massive fire fighting operation from emergency services in Kerry. ....

There needs to be an overhaul of current farming practices to protect Kerry’s uplands and national parks.
That’s according to the Irish Wildlife Trust which made the comments after last weekend’s devastating fire at Killarney National Park.
Pádraic Fogarty of the Wildlife Trust said upland fires happen this time every year with grim predictability and cause ecological devastation. ....

14 firefighters were involved in a two-day operation to put out a fire at Templetuohy Bog in recent days.
Tipperary Fire Service were on the scene on Sunday evening and worked to contain the fire before darkness, which had spread to forestry in the area.
They then returned the following morning and worked until 5pm to complete the operation.
The fire happened at the same time as a high profile blaze at Killarney National Park, which has wiped out a significant amount of trees and habitats. ....
