Photo courtesy BC Wildfire Service The Cariboo Regional District (CRD) issued an evacuation alert back on Saturday, for the Big Stick area west of Williams Lake as a result of fire activity. BC Wildfire Service listed the fire as discovered on July 2, approximately four kilometres north of Big Stick Lake, 70 hectares in size. CRD manager of communications Chris Keam said 27 land parcels are being impacted by the alert covering 328.7 hectares in the sparsely populated area. Recreation Sites and Trails BC listed the Big Lake Recreation Site on the northern shore of Big Stick Lake as closed “due to active wildfire in the area.” ....
Evacuated residents now going to Williams Lake SHARE ON: The Cariboo Regional District has confirmed that evacuated residents are now being sent to Williams Lake. Stephanie Masun is the CRD Manager of Emergency Programs. “What that means is that in the area of 100 Mile House there may not be any more rental units. A secondary site had opened up in Williams Lake that’s located at the volunteer fire department on Hodson Road, as a secondary site for people tom come for assistance with lodging.” Masun says some people are going elsewhere. “Sometimes with ESS people register but they have plans to go elsewhere. They have friends and family that they’d rather go stay with than commercial lodging. There are more sites in Williams Lake though than 100 Mile House, but I don’t know the number of rooms because it changes daily.” ....

Cariboo Regional District Watching Closely The Spring Freshet In The Region SHARE ON: CRD Office -File photo With warm temperatures in the forecast, the Cariboo Regional District will be keeping a close eye on any Spring freshet activity in the region. CRD Manager of Communications, Chris Keam said they are always in contact with the Ministry of Transportation and the Provincial Coordination Centre in terms of keeping up to date where there may be areas of concern. “At this point, we don’t have any specific areas that we’re worried about for imminent flooding but in the next few days, the next week or two, it’s quite likely that we will have places that become subject to groundwater and overland flooding.” ....
