PIERRE – Pierre Governor Track & Field will compete Friday and Saturday in the State AA meet at Woodle Field in Sturgis. This year’s state meet was modified by the SDHSAA due to COVID-19 concerns. Each classification will compete in a single site and the schedule of events is compressed, with only a few events having preliminary heats.

PIERRE – Golf’s Ellie Simpson and Track & Field’s Josh Strand are the Pierre Athletic Coaches Association-Avera Athletes of the Week for the week ending April 10.
Though the Pierre girls’ golf season won’t begin competition until April 27, Simpson has already proven herself, according to Head Coach Chris Swiden. Swiden said, “Ellie has done a fantastic job being a leader for our team. Before our first day of practice she was texting other players to make sure they were going to be at the Monday morning workout. She is always there and ready to work hard. As a young and inexperienced team, we will need to lean heavily on her to help support and lead the younger athletes through the season and she has stepped up from day one.”
