Obiano Rescinds Suspension of Three Anambra Monarchs

The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has rescinded the suspension of three traditional rulers in the state.
The three traditional rulers were among the 12 suspended in September 2020 for allegedly travelling out of their domain to Abuja, without seeking permission to do so.
The monarchs had joined billionaire oil mogul, Arthur Eze, on a trip to Abuja to visit President Muhammadu Buhari.
Obiano, who was allegedly in a feud with Eze for accusing him of shortchanging monarchs in the state, brought the hammer down on the monarchs for what many thought could be insubordination to him by the monarchs. ....

Anambra sacks three traditional rulers

The Anambra State Government has dethroned three traditional rulers.
The sacked monarchs were amongst the 12 rulers suspended in the state for visiting Abuja to see the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), without the state government’s approval.
A statement by the state Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs, Greg Obi, said the sacked monarchs should submit their certificates of recognition to the secretaries of their local government areas.
According to the statement, the affected monarchs are Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo of Nawfia, Igwe Anthony Onyekwere of Owelle and Igwe G.B.C. Mbakwe of Abacha. ....

Gov. Obiano dethrones 3 traditional rulers, reinstates 5 others

Awka, Dec. 18, 2020 Gov. Willie Obiano of Anambra has withdrawn the certificates of appointment of three traditional rulers in the state and also reinstated five others.
Chief Greg Obi, Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Community Affairs announced this on Friday in Awka.
Obi in a statement dated Dec. 17 and entitled: “Update on Suspension of Igwes in Anambra’’ said the governor acted according to the powers vested on him by the Anambra State Traditional Rulers Law, 2007.
He gave the names of the traditional rulers who had their certificates withdrawn as, Igwe Chijioke Nwankwo of Nawfia Town, Igwe Anthony Onyekwere of Owelle and Igwe G. B. C. Mbakwe of Abacha. ....
