Another innovation: a buy-in membership program for $40 a year, which includes perks like discounts on orders. So far, Mirisata is Portland’s only restaurant operating under a co-op model, but its worker-owners say it’s a way forward for those who’ve historically faced barriers, including women and people of color, to gain business ownership in a notoriously brutal industry.

Lidl is officially Britain s cheapest supermarket

Richard BakerGetty Images The results are in and it s official - Lidl has been named the cheapest supermarket in the UK, beating the likes of Aldi, Asda and Tesco, according to Which? research. The low-cost retailer received the golden accolade following a comparison of 45 popular branded and own-label products across eight major supermarkets for at least 100 days between January and December last year. The results showed that on average, Lidl customers paid just £42.67 for their trolley which included items such as Hovis bread, Knorr stock cubes and free-range eggs. Ryan McDonnell, Chief Commercial Officer at Lidl GB, said, “We always strive to ensure our shoppers can enjoy the highest quality produce for the best value, so we’re delighted Which? have named us the Cheapest Supermarket 2020.
