Pubs and restaurants are allowed to let people indoors, theatres and cinemas reopening, and hotels let visitors stay. Following the successful reopening of hairdressers, pub gardens, and non-essential shops during April, Step 3 out of lockdown is expected to come into place from Monday, May 17. The main change is that indoor hospitality will be allowed, meaning pubs will be able to offer indoor dining and drinking again, much to the joy of both landlords and customers who have endured cold and wet days to get back to the pub.

Burnham-On-Sea MP James Heappey welcomes funding boost for local arts facilities Burnham-On-Sea MP James Heappey has this week welcomed the news that the Government has allocated close to £2million to theatres, cinemas, arts, heritage sites and festival organisations in the area. As reported here, the Princess Theatre in Burnham-On-Sea has received £27,356 in a huge funding boost to the facilities. The Cultural Recovery Fund provides grants for these businesses across England and will assist them financially as they prepare to reopen, with the second round of allocations having now been announced. Those in the Wells constituency who have received grants include Glastonbury Festival, Wells Film Centre and Burnham’s Princess Theatre.

Cinemas in Somerset who received grants thanks to Culture Recovery Fund

SIX cinemas in Somerset have received more than £300k from the Culture Recovery Fund. Westlands in Yeovil received £38,926 in the latest round of grants, whereas the Film Centre in Bridgwater, Ritz in Burnham-on-Sea, Wellesley Cinema in Wellington, Wells Film Centre in Wells and Westway Cinema in Frome all received grants in December. The Film Centre received £42,143 of funding. Dan Harris, operations director at Scott Cinemas (owners of the Film Centre), said the money will go towards making changes to help customers feel safe . Scott Cinemas are very pleased to have been awarded a safety grant from the Culture Recovery Fund, which will go towards the changes necessary to make our customers feel safe and also welcome when they visit our cinemas, he said.
