A retired Gaston County Police officer plans to spend this summer bicycling across the United States while raising awareness for suicide among law enforcement officers. Chris Lowrance filled a number of shoes in his 28 years working at Gaston County Police Department. The former patrolman, sergeant, K-9 handler and SWAT team member officially retired from law enforcement in December 2020, but has served as a school resource officer at New Hope Elementary since then. Lowrance picked up cycling from his late father-in-law. Since then, he’s embarked on single-day trips up to 100 miles, as well as Cycle North Carolina’s annual Mountains to Coast ride, a week-long journey across the state. ....

Delgado is charged with trafficking heroin, trafficking marijuana, trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver heroin, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession with the intent to sell and deliver marijuana and maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance. Police have arrested a Gaston County man in a homicide from earlier this month, and a suspect remains on the loose. Gaston County Police responded to a shooting around 12:45 a.m. on Wednesday, April 14, at W.H. Kiser Road near Long Shoals Road, which is about two miles south of the Lincoln County line. Officers found Michael Lee Moore, a 36-year-old Bessemer City man, suffering from a gunshot wound. Moore later died at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia. Gaston County Police arrested Marvin Christopher Neal, 36, of 121 W.H. Kiser Road and booked him into Gaston County Jail on Friday, where he remains without bond. Police didn’t charged Neal with first-degree murder until Tuesday afternoon. ....

Gaston County Police Department’s administrator of Animal Care and Enforcement resigned last month after six years in the position. Dr. Kristine Blankenship, a licensed veterinarian for more than two decades, began her role with Gaston County on Jan. 5, 2015. She resigned on March 5, 2021, according to county records, upon starting a new position elsewhere, according to Gaston County Manager Kim Eagle. Blankenship, a former instructor at Gaston College’s Veterinary Technology program, earned a salary of $97,924 when she left the county. As administrator, Blankenship was responsible for managing operations at the county animal shelter, where dogs and cats are available for adoption. She managed nine employees directly, including the shelter s supervisor, Tyler Moore, who also supervises a staff of nine. ....
