Retired Gaston officer to bike 4,200 miles for suicide awareness

A retired Gaston County Police officer plans to spend this summer bicycling across the United States while raising awareness for suicide among law enforcement officers.   Chris Lowrance filled a number of shoes in his 28 years working at Gaston County Police Department. The former patrolman, sergeant, K-9 handler and SWAT team member officially retired from law enforcement in December 2020, but has served as a school resource officer at New Hope Elementary since then.  Lowrance picked up cycling from his late father-in-law. Since then, he’s embarked on single-day trips up to 100 miles, as well as Cycle North Carolina’s annual Mountains to Coast ride, a week-long journey across the state.  

Blackstone buys 22-building portfolio for $247M

In another record-breaking deal, the Blackstone Group Inc. acquired a 22-building industrial portfolio for $247 million this month. The New York-based investment company secured 2.5 million square feet of industrial properties scattered across the Twin Cities, working out to $98.8 per square foot. CBRE’s Senior Associate Bentley Smith and Executive Vice President Judd Welliver brokered the deal, which Smith said was the largest widely marketed portfolio of its kind. The industrial market is currently in high demand, Smith said. “There’s a deep bench of capital that’s looking for industrial properties,” he said. The scale of the portfolio also allowed CBRE to target new capital that previously didn’t invest in the Twin Cities, he said.
