Second gunman questioned in fatal shooting of Army vet, father of 2

A second gunman has been questioned in last week s fatal Battle Creek shooting.
Battle Creek Police Detective Sgt. Joel Case said Tuesday a 24-year-old Battle Creek man was interviewed by detectives on Monday.
Police are continuing to investigate the shooting death on July 28 of Andre Watson, 27, and injury to his sister, Alesha M. Williams, 29. Both were shot outside an apartment house at the Arbors of Battle Creek, 74 Rambling Lane.
Watson was pronounced dead at the scene and Williams was treated at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo for gunshot wounds to the legs and released later that day.
Lansing M. Hodges, 29, who lives in the apartment complex, was arraigned Friday on charges of open murder, assault with intent to murder and four weapons charges in the shooting. ....

Battle Creek Police responded to an area of the 1600 block of West Michigan Avenue in Urbandale around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 21, after witnesses spotted a man get out of his vehicle and attempt to take the woman into his car from the bike she was riding. A nearby motorist saw the incident and intervened. Officers were already in the Urbandale area after a man was seen in the backyard of a home a few blocks away on Lacey Avenue and was chased off by a resident there. ....

The lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan against three Battle Creek Police officers and a Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputy, as well as the governments they serve. ....

$15 Million Wrongful Death Suit Filed in Marshall Man's Death

A $15 million wrongful death lawsuit has been filed by the family of a 22-year-old Marshall man shot and killed by police last September.
The suit filed Wednesday in federal court on behalf of 22-year-old Andrew Blowers of Marshall, names the defendants as the city of Battle Creek, Battle Creek Police Department Chief Jim Blocker, two Battle Creek Police officers, the Calhoun County Board of Commissioners, Calhoun County Sheriff Steven Hinkley as well as a deputy with the sheriff’s department.
The suit alleges that the Battle Creek police officers and Calhoun County Sheriff’s deputy who opened fire “used unnecessary, excessive, reckless and deadly force.” ....

Marshall family files suit in September fatal police shooting in Battle Creek
A Marshall family is suing the City of Battle Creek and Calhoun County for the fatal police shooting of a 22-year-old suspected drunk driver in September.
The family of Andrew Blowers is seeking $15.5 million in a wrongful death suit filed late Wednesday in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, Southern Division.
The federal civil wrongful death suit alleges that Blowers was killed in an unjustified use of deadly force by two officers from the Battle Creek Police Department and a deputy from the Calhoun County Sheriff Department following a pursuit which ended on Logistics Drive in the Fort Custer Industrial Park just after midnight on Sept. 5. ....
