Captain Tom 100 Marks Challenge at Ullswater Yacht Club

Members of Ullswater Yacht Club launched into the national Captain Tom 100 Challenge over the Bank Holiday weekend by sailing round as many marks on the lake as they could - and were delighted at the final total of 694.
The sailors joined the event to celebrate what would have been Captain Tom Moore s 101st birthday on April 30 with their own 100 Marks Challenge, aiming to sail round 100 marks on Saturday, May 1 and Sunday, May 2, raising funds for the Calvert Trust Lake District at the same time.
It was a very busy weekend and club members of all ages got involved, clocking up 226 mark roundings on the Saturday and 468 on the Sunday. ....

Ullswater Yacht Club take on Captain Tom 100 Challenge this weekend

A Cumbrian Yacht Club has decided it will be chipping in with its own support for the Captain Tom 100 Challenge this weekend.
Members of the Ullswater Yacht Club will be aiming to sail around 100 marks on May 1 and 2.
All age groups will be getting involved to mark the late Captain Tom s 101st birthday, and they will also be aiming to raise funds for the Calvert Trust Lake District - a charity that provides outdoor adventure holidays for people with disabilities - at the same time.
Vice Commodore, Brian Moreton, said: We all love to be out on the lake so what better way to pay tribute to Captain Tom by sailing round as many marks as we can during the scheduled races over the weekend as well as raising funds for the Calvert Trust Lake District through donations. ....

Boy, 13, with brain injury launches campaign to save activity centre

A boy who suffered a catastrophic brain injury at just two days old has launched a campaign to save an activity centre for disabled people.
Oliver Voysey, 13, from Newcastle upon Tyne, is raising money for the Lake District Calvert Trust activity centre, which allows people with disabilities to enjoy the benefits of outdoor activities in a safe and accessible, yet challenging environment.
Oliver was left blind, with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism and learning difficulties after his brain injury, but with specialist help at the centre is able to take part in activities such as rock climbing and canoeing.
Appearing on This Morning, his mother Sarah told that his birthday wish was to save the centre, which has lost nearly £1million in income due to the pandemic and is now threatened with closure. ....

Oliver's Army are taking part in a series of 13 themed fundraisers as he becomes a teenager

A THRILL-seeking boy with a profound brain injury has launched a campaign to save the charity which has changed his life as he celebrates his 13th birthday.
Oliver Voysey is marking becoming a teenager with a series of 13 themed challenges, all ending in a face plant into a cake.
And he s asking others to join Oliver’s Calvert Army, his crowdfunding appeal to help save the Calvert Trust s Lake District activity centre for people with disabilities.
Fundraisers dream up a challenge based around the number 13, then face plant, donate to the appeal and nominate friends.
