Bear Grylls supports event to raise funds for Calvert Trust Bear Grylls is backing an event to raise cash for the Lake District Calvert Trust. The Calvert Bear 5 Peak Challenge is organised by Keswick Rotary Club to help the charity, which was on the brink of closure due to the coronavirus pandemic. It launched a £1 million Bounce Back Appeal in December and raised over £730,000, allowing it to reopen. Keswick Rotary said 2021 was also set to be extremely financially challenging for the Calvert Trust, so it had committed to a final push for funds. Business leader tackles 214 Wainwrights for Lake District Calvert Trust A Cumbrian business leader is pulling on her walking boots to raise money for charity. Sue Howorth, founder and co-director of The Family Business Network, is taking on the Wainwright Challenge in aid of the Lake District Calvert Trust. The trust delivers challenging outdoor adventure experiences for disabled adults and children. The charity was one of many that was forced to suspend their activities as the country went into lockdown early last year. Neurorehabilitation centre opens in Keswick A new ground-breaking neurorehabilitation centre in Keswick is set to open its doors to the public. Calvert Reconnections, the UK’s first residential brain injury rehabilitation programme combining traditional clinical therapies with physical activity in the outdoors, will open its doors on June 21. The centre is located at Old Windebrowe, a Grade II listed Tithebarn and one-time home of legendary Lakeland poet William Wordsworth. After a sensitive transformation, it is now set to provide real-life rehabilitation in a real-life setting after delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. “We are thrilled to be opening our doors on June, 21,” said centre director, Sean Day. ....
