Public Safety Committee eyes more parking on Kost

The Public Safety Committee discussed ways to resolve local traffic concerns on July 26, including the parking situation around Meadowview Park. Part of that discussion included partially closing the cross street.
Especially during baseball games, the limited parking around Meadowview leads some people to park on the south side of Kost Road and cross fast-moving traffic near the uncontrolled intersection with Meadowview Drive.
Any modifications in the area are hampered by the fact that the northern half of that stretch of Kost is in Galt, while the southern half is under the jurisdiction of Sacramento County.
âI feel personally that thatâs a very dangerous intersection. I have handled it a few times because my son plays baseball at that park every season,â Committee Member Timothy Reed said at the regular meeting. He added that cars parked along the north side of Kost block the view of traffic for drivers turning off of Meadowview Drive. ....

Fireworks for a good cause

The three fireworks booths in Galt this year opening June 28 will be TNT vendors run by Kiwanis Club, Galt Youth Baseball (GYB) and Calvary Life Tabernacle Church, raising money for their volunteer driven organizations. The only three booths allowed within the city limits are located in the public parking lot near the digital highway sign at the corner of Caroline Avenue and Fairway Drive.
Kiwanis Club is focused on serving youth and the underprivileged in Galt.
âAll the money goes to kids and people in need in the community,â Kiwanis Club President Elizabeth Haglund said.
During their nearly 30-year existence, the club has been focused on helping the underprivileged, specifically children, with their different programs throughout the year. ....

Holiday spirit shines at Muffins with Santa event

Many events have been canceled or postponed this year due to the pandemic, but how do you cancel a visit from Santa? City of Galt staff said, you donât â you just change how it works.
In an effort to maintain the holiday spirit, Special Events Manager Jackie Garcia took the annual Breakfast with Santa event and changed it into a picture opportunity, complete with friends from the North Pole, muffins and craft projects.
âWe wanted to make sure we were able to provide a safe and fun family holiday experience during this unprecedented time,â Garcia said. âOur hope was to retain the holiday spirit that brings so much to our community.â ....
