Premium Content Subscriber only Queensland Fire and Rescue firefighters had an equine encounter at Calliope on Friday afternoon when they were called to an entrapped horse. A spokeswoman said two units were called to an address on Mann Road just after 4pm after reports of a trapped horse. “When firefighters arrived they found the horse was trapped between a horse float and a ramp,” the spokeswoman said. The concerned horse’s owner called a vet to the scene. After about 30 minutes, the spokeswoman said the horse was released from its entrapment safe and well. In Queensland the rate of horse related deaths per 100,000 population is higher than the rates in all other states, but not the Northern Territory and the ACT. ....
This was nearly a fishing tale of the one that got away. A 73-year-old Gladstone man enjoying a days’ fishing on the Calliope River on Sunday (April 11) fell overboard after his boat was rocked by the wake of another vessel just after 11am. The man sustained a hand injury from the blades of the motor when he tried to get back onboard, with the tinny now circling uncontrollably. Three men, aged 28, 29 and 30, out kayaking saw the distressed fisherman struggling in the water and paddled over to him. They managed to hold onto the injured fisherman while calling out to a passing boat who came over and helped retrieve the man from the water, before ferrying him to shore. ....
Premium Content UPDATE 10.36AM: A man was taken to hospital after a steel gate cut his arm at Diglum on Friday morning. Paramedics were called to Gladstone-Monto Rd at 9.28am. A Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said a man reportedly in his 80s was taken to Gladstone Hospital with an injury to his arm. INITIAL 9.48AM: Paramedics are on their way to Calliope after reports a steel gate has cut a man s arm on Friday morning.
