Former Cardigan Castle director pleads guilty to fraud and theft

A FORMER director of Cardigan Castle has appeared before Swansea magistrates to plead guilty to two charges of fraud and two of theft from the award-winning restoration project.
Jac Davies, aged 34, of 21 Dol Dintir, Cardigan, took over the £40,000-a-year post in September 2017 soon after the castle drew national acclaim after beating off UK-wide competition to land Channel 4’s Restoration Of The Year award.
On Wednesday of last week he admitted fraudulently obtaining £4,143.20 from the castle on December 21, 2017.
He also pleaded guilty to fraudulently obtaining £28,955.55 between February 4, 2019 and November 3, 2019.
In addition he pleaded guilty to stealing £6,024.79 from Cardigan Castle Enterprises between October 1, 2018 and May 9, 2019, as well as the sum of £1,908.18 from the castle between May 2, 2018 and May 24, 2019. ....

Cardigan Castle reopens its doors on Monday
A VIRTUAL tour of a medieval cellar normally closed off to the public is among a series of new digital exhibitions as Cardigan Castle re-opens its doors on Monday.
Home to a colony of Greater Horseshoe Bats, the cellar - located beneath the 13th century North Tower - is normally out-of-bounds, so the tour provides a unique opportunity for visitors to explore one of the most mysterious parts of the castle.
The castle team are also launching a new virtual tour of Castle Green House.
This includes new interpretation and guided voice tours by well-known local historian Glen Johnson and Non Davies, Chair of the Cadwgan Building Preservation Trust. ....

Town council back 'Kill the Bill' demo

CARDIGAN Town Council are backing the seventy campaigners who gathered illegally beneath Cardigan Castle to register their distaste for the controversial Policing, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill on Saturday.
The Bill would grant the police enhanced powers limiting the right to peaceful protest, greater stop and search powers, and – most controversially – potentially result in longer prison terms for defacing a statue than for rape.
And most members who attended last night’s virtual meeting of Cardigan Town Council expressed solidarity with the protestors.
“I think that this Bill would pit the police against the community,” Cllr Shan Williams told colleagues. “When things go wrong will the police be made into scapegoats? ....

Big crowd attends Cardigan's 'Kill The Bill demonstration

OVER seventy campaigners - masked and socially-distanced - gathered below Cardigan Castle on Saturday morning as part of an illegal UK-wide Day of Action opposing the Policing, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Bill.
Voted through its second reading in the House of Commons last month, the Bill would grant the police enhanced powers limiting the right to peaceful protest, greater stop and search powers, and – most controversially – potentially result in longer prison terms for defacing a statue than for rape.
