Sonamarg: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Baseer Ahmad Khan today inaugurated one-day Sonamarg winter festival that witnessed the participation of hundreds of locals and tourists. During the festival, various colourful activities and cultural programmes were performed. During the day-long event various snow sports activities including skiing, snow sledge, snow biking, etc. were held in which athletes from various districts participated enthusiastically. The event also witnessed various colourful cultural items presented by the renowned artists of the valley and scintillating performances by famous singers who enthralled the audience with various traditional folk and cultural shows. The one-day Sonamarg winter festival was organised by Directorate of Tourism Kashmir in collaboration with district administration Ganderbal, Sonamarg Development Authority, Hoteliers’ Association Sonamarg, NIEL and NHIDCL. ....

Flipkart has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Maharashtra Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (MSSIDC) and Maharashtra State Khadi & Village Industries Board (MSKVIB), to bring local artisans, weavers, craftsmen and SMBs of the state into the e-commerce fold. The MoU to onboard local artisans and entities on the company’s flagship initiative Flipkart Samarth was signed in the presence of Honorable Industries Minister Shri Subhash Desai and Minister of State, Industries, Smt. Aditi Tatkare. The partnership under the Flipkart Samarth program will enable Maharashtra’s local artisans, weavers, craftsmen and smaller industries to showcase their hallmark products like Khadi, Paithani sarees, wooden toys, handmade artifacts, jewelry and paper products, purses and other key handicraft products to millions of customers across the country, further adding impetus to the government’s ‘#Vocal for Local’ efforts. The handloom sector, employing over 31.45 million individuals, contributes to about 12% of total domestic textile production in the country along with 95% of all the hand-spun fabrics produced globally. India is also among the very few countries in the world that can boast of the entire value chain - from farm (fibre) to manufacturers, existing within its own boundaries. While India leads the world in exports of raw materials such as cotton yarn, its share in the export of value added cotton fabrics for instance is very low. The competitors such as Vietnam have not only improved their yarn production but also expanded their export position by over 60% in the past decade, commanding 15% of the global market share while India remains at the lower end commanding less than 6%. Moreover countries such as China and Bangladesh import the bulk of the cotton yarn from India and are able to export the finished articles at better quality and cheaper rates than India. ....
