This couple ran a gang of burglars in 7 states | Noida News

GHAZIABAD: When Tanveer and Shama got married 12 years ago, the man’s income from doing odd jobs was hardly enough to start a family. One night, they managed to break into a jewellery shop and flee with cash and valuables worth lakhs.
More than a decade on and after several trips to jail the couple now manage a gang of burglars. Not just in UP alone, this “Bunty-Babli” gang is active in six other states Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Delhi. While Shama was arrested with three of her gang members from Modinagar on Wednesday night, Tanveer is still on the run. Their latest burglary took place on February 26 in Modinagar, where they stole jewellery after cutting open the shutter of a store. The gang had raided another store in Sahibabad on February 9. When police scanned CCTV footage, they found that the same gang was behind both burglaries. This helped cops round them up. ....

GHAZIABAD: Ghaziabad: Philanthropy that can make a difference does not always need a grand scale and a tycoon with a fortune to spend. During last year’s lockdown, around 130 police constables living in and around a Ghaziabad village called Ganauli contributed Rs 5,000 each to set up a ‘gram pathshala’ essentially a free-of-cost public library with textbooks and study material to help local students access study material for higher education and competitive exams. Today, these ‘gram pathshala’ have become a movement – they have spread to eight districts, including Kudi Khera in Noida.
The driving force was Lal Bahar, a former Delhi Police sub-inspector who works with the National Human Rights Commission. Bahar, now in his late 40s, sees a satisfying career ahead of him but the path wasn’t easy, he said, adding all he wanted to do was make life a little easier for kids in Ganauli. GHAZIABAD: A 30-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday night for allegedly kidnapping two siblings, both minors, from Masuri area in Ghaziabad.
Police said the youth has been identified as Arvind Kumar, a resident of Lakhimpur. He used to work as a labourer but has been without a job for the past few days, police said.
On Wednesday night, Raju, a resident of Ambedkar Colony in Masuri, lodged a police complaint alleging that his three-year-old daughter and eight-year-old son had been kidnapped.
He said that around 8 pm on Wednesday, his son Prince and daughter Naini went to a nearby shop to buy a packet of biscuits. When they did not return even after 8.40 pm, the family started looking for the children. ....
