Sullivan offically announces Holyoke mayoral campaign

HOLYOKE –  Months after entering the race for mayor of Holyoke, City Councilor Mike Sullivan officially launched his campaign publicly.
Sullivan is the third candidate to officially announce his intent to seek the city’s highest office with Councilor Rebecca Lisi and School Committee member Devin Sheehan announcing their campaigns at the beginning of the year.
His announcement came on April 20 in the form of a YouTube video where Sullivan visited several locations in Holyoke while explaining his platform and intentions. Sullivan began the almost four-minute long video with various shots of the city, including the Holyoke Water Power Company hydroelectric facilities. ....

HOLYOKE Mayor Alex Morse has announced that his last day in the job he has held for more than nine years will be March 26.
“When I reflect on the past decade, I’m proud of what we’ve been able to achieve,” said Morse, in a letter announcing his imminent resignation to City Clerk Brenna Murphy McGee. “I think of the neighborhoods that have seen record levels of new investment, the parks we’ve renovated and the new parks we’ve built, and the new housing completed and in progress. I think of the Holyokers from all different backgrounds and walks of life who got involved in the civic life of our community for the first time.” ....

HOLYOKE City Council President Todd McGee could become acting mayor after Alex B. Morse was picked Thursday as Provincetown’s next town manager.
McGee said he would speak with Morse in the coming days and release a statement before Tuesday’s City Council meeting. He cautioned against speculating until he has more information.
When Morse will begin his job in Provincetown is unknown at this point. He still must negotiate a contract.
Morse’s term as Holyoke mayor expires at year’s end. It was unclear if his early departure would trigger a special election. ....

HOLYOKE Ward 1 City Councilor Gladys Lebron-Martinez will not seek a sixth term.
Lebron-Martinez, who recently battled COVID-19, cited a career change that would interfere with her work on the council.
Often a quiet presence, Lebron-Martinez could speak passionately and forcefully about issues important to her or in defense of a colleague. She entered city politics in 2003, winning a School Committee seat.
The Holyoke city clerk’s webpage does not show any candidates who filed nomination papers for the Ward 1 seat. Lebron-Martinez’s departure will likely draw interest in the coming weeks and months. ....
