It is certainly discussed heavily in Los Alamos. Los Alamos County has had initiatives to foster a successful, thriving business community, including the recent effort to develop downtown master plans for Los Alamos and White Rock that reflect the community’s downtown goals and needs. An outcome will be an extensive update to the Chapter 16 Development Code, which governs development, including commercial development and redevelopment. During the May 4 County Council meeting, another option was suggested. County Councilor Sean Williams introduced a motion to request Planning and Zoning Commission review and make recommendations to council about adding a Pedestrian Retail Overlay Zone into Chapter 16 of the County Code. Screenshot/LADP By KIRSTEN LASKEY Monday night, Los Alamos County Council approved the FY22 budget, which totals $245,119,586. The budget was passed 6-1 with Councilor David Reagor opposed. Earlier in Monday’s budget hearing, Reagor motioned to reduce the County Manager’s budget, specifically for the Partners in Progress. He proposed reducing the program’s funding from $1.5 million to $585,000, which is the sum of the three previous projects that were in the program. ....

The councilors shared with the Los Alamos Daily Post a variety of ideas for the path the County should take to get more housing and businesses in these downtowns areas. ....
Council Weighs Whether To Purchase Reel Deal, CB FOX [email protected] The CB FOX and Reel Deal buildings are empty but the possibilities are endless for what could go into these properties, Los Alamos County Council learned Tuesday night during its regular work session Los Alamos County is in a 90-day due-diligence period with the owners of these properties, Tigard Pacific RE, LLC and Trinity Los Alamos, LLC, as it weighs whether to purchase these two properties. Public Works Director Anne Laurent reported that there is 30 days left in the due diligence period. The presentation made Tuesday night served as a “check in point” for the due diligence process. A final report will be given to council at its March 16 meeting. ....
Council Unanimously Elects Ryti Chair; Robinson Vice Chair COUNTY News: The new Los Alamos County Council unanimously approved Randall Ryti as chair and James Robinson as vice chair during its regular meeting Tuesday night. Robinson nominated Ryti and Councilor Sean Williams nominated Robinson. There were no other nominations for either position. Ryti served as vice chair and Sara Scott as chair for two years.
