Former Councilman and Laredo ISD Trustee Johnny Amaya was sentenced to two years probation on Thursday due to his involvement in a bribery scheme where he facilitated payments to local elected officials in exchange for their support of Dannenbaum Engineering contracts.
Federal District Judge Sim Lake, in a hearing held over Zoom, noted that 73-year-old Amaya is in poor health. Amaya told the judge he has had cancer and a five-pound tumor was removed from his stomach. He also has diabetes, high cholesterol and recently recovered from COVID-19. ....

(Cleveland) - Ward 4 Cleveland Councilman Kenneth Johnson was arrested Tuesday morning by FBI agents, after a federal grand jury handed down at 15-count indictment charging him with federal program theft. Two other men were also indicted.
Johnson is charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit federal program, six counts of federal program theft, five counts of aiding and assisting in the preparation of false tax returns, one count of tampering with a witness, and one count of falsification of records in a federal investigation.
Garnell Jamison, Johnson s executive assistant for over 20 years, was also charged, as was John Hopkis, executive director of the Buckeye Shaker Square Development Corporation. ....
