Haralson County deputies uncover major theft ring operation
Theft ring uncovered in Haralson County
The Haralson County Sheriff s Office discovered stolen vehicles, tools and guns on a man s property in what authorities called a major theft ring.
HARALSON COUNTY, Ga. - A major theft ring discovered in west Georgia. Law enforcement officers say hundreds of new and used stolen items were found on a man s property near Bremen.
Haralson County Sheriff Stacy Williams says his detectives were working a business burglary at the same time Carroll County Sheriff s Office and Villa Rica Police were trying to track down some stolen property. Sheriff Williams says tips started coming in and it led investigators to the same place.
Several agencies used the local Walmart as a base of operations for a manhunt. However, no part of the incident actually happened there, the sheriff said.
Haralson County deputies have arrested a second former detention officer following an investigation into allegations of criminal activity occurring within the Haralson County Jail.
That investigation has so far resulted in several inmates identified as being involved in a “conspiracy to bring drugs inside” of the jail. Charges have now been filed against numerous inmates as well as the two jailers.
Additional charges against at least one other individual are still possible, according to investigators.
Charges of violation of oath by a public officer and crossing county guard lines with suspected drugs and contraband had been filed against former detention officer Brandy “Joelle” Guthrie earlier this month.
Haralson County Sheriff Stacy Williams said the call came to authorities around 3:14pm Friday.
“ The passenger of the wrecked vehicle told deputies that when they had come off Corinth-Poseyville Road, a white SUV which we later determined was an older model Jeep was parked in the road and a white male was standing in their traveling lane,” Williams told WLBB Radio. “The driver of the vehicle attempted to drive around the man in the road. As he did, the man in the road fired one shot into the vehicle, striking our victim.”
Williams said surveillance video in the area and an additional witness have provided supplementary information in the preliminary investigation.
