Author: Marshall Keely (WNEP) Updated: 7:11 PM EDT May 6, 2021 MOUNT CARBON, Pa. An 1894 bow-string arch bridge in Mount Carbon is now at the center of a PennDOT project. The bridge spans the Schuylkill River right across the street from Goodfella s Cafe. It was first used for automobiles, then pedestrians. Now, the area is blocked off and overgrown. The bridge deck is mostly gone. But PennDOT officials saw it as a great candidate for a project aimed at restoring old bridges and connecting them to trails. ....
[email protected] LEWISTOWN During a brief special meeting Friday, the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Lewistown Board of Directors voted to repeal a resolution enacted at Monday’s special meeting that sought to have Lewistown Borough take over the authority’s debt for the purpose of refinancing. The board’s discussion centered around the need to have funding available for MABL’s capital improvement projects. Under the resolution, it seemed as though MABL would have been forced to seek approval from Lewistown Borough for any expenditures. Engineer Pat Ward said there was some “miscommunication with what was going on” at Monday’s meeting. ....
[email protected] LEWISTOWN At a special meeting Monday, board members approved a resolution by a 3 – 1 margin that asks the borough of Lewistown to take over the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Lewistown’s (MABL) debt. In a roll call vote, board president Ben Rager and members Jennifer Miller and Frank Berrier voted in favor. Board member Jeff Rocco, appearing via Zoom, voted against, chastising the board in the process. By allowing the borough to refinance its debt, the borough is a step closer to its previously discussed proposition to take ownership of the municipal authority and lease it to generate revenue for the borough. ....
