Minister for Transport and Main Roads The Honourable Mark Bailey A $24 million upgrade is under way to widen and seal more than 30 kilometres of the Richmond-Winton Road. The upgrade will also and replace key structures, including culverts, and improve road safety and travel times on the key regional connector, as part of an $364.68 million Australian Government to enable the fast roll-out of safety treatments on roads across Queensland. This includes $5.39 million to seal additional sections of the Richmond-Winton Road, helping reduce deaths and serious injuries as part of the $3 billion nationwide Road Safety Program. The investment also includes $16.3 million committed to boost delivery of immediate benefits to the regional economy while providing long-lasting infrastructure capable of supporting growth well into the future. ....

Minister Training and Skills Development Di Farmer met with Winton Shire Councilâs current First Start trainees and two former First Start trainees who have secured permanent jobs with the councilâs child care centre. âSince 2015-16 the State Government has invested $165,000 in the First Start program with Winton Shire Council,â Ms Farmer said. Mayor of Winton Shire Council Gavin Baskett said that the investment went a long way in supporting the Winton community. âThis funding has helped the Council put on 10 apprentices and trainees over the last six years,â Mr Baskett said. ....

Winton Shire Mayor Gavin Baskett said it was a fantastic idea and a win for the community, allowing people who wouldnât otherwise have the chance, to travel to the iconic town. âIt gives time poor people who are, for lack of a better word, cashed up, the opportunity to travel out to Winton on a day trip and to experience a couple of great attractions, have a big steak in one of our local pubs and be back in their own bed that night,â he said. ....
