Darrell and Victoria Bentham purchased the Sapphire Caravan and Cabin Park in December and have loved every minute of the journey since. They originally dated as teenagers in England, but met up again years later after Victoria made the move to Australia, and as they say, the rest is history. Mr and Mrs Bentham were living in Melbourne before moving to Brisbane, and soon after had their worlds flipped upside down by an unexpected diagnosis. ....
Premium Content Subscriber only An extra 7000 visitors are expected to flock to the central west thanks to $4.9 million in new dinosaur exhibits at Winton. Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe officially opened the Australian Age of Dinosaurs’ Dynamic Destination Project on Saturday, including Australia’s first International Dark Sky Sanctuary. “Some of the largest animals to have ever walked the Earth did so right here in Outback Queensland,” Mr Hinchliffe said. “Winton and Outback Queensland are some of the best places in the world to walk in the footsteps of dinosaurs.” The project includes two new, enormous replica sauropods, joining 39 life-size and lifelike dinosaur sculptures and seven bronze pterosaurs winged reptiles already at the Dinosaur Canyon area of the museum. ....
Premium Content Subscriber only An iconic attraction in the central west has reopened its new cafe, retail outlet and children s area as part of a multimillion-dollar upgrade, creating a better experience for visitors and tourists. The new and improved Australian Workers Heritage Centre (AWHC) in Barcaldine officially reopened on Sunday, just in time for Monday s 2021 Labour Day celebrations. Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe was in Barcaldine for the official opening. He said the new entry building was designed to welcome tourists into the facility directly from the main street. The new building features a themed entry to draw guests inside, a cafe-restaurant, a retail outlet, children s activity area, rest room facilities, covered and easy access for disability parking, and environmental utilities such as solar power and water efficient devices, Mr Hinchcliffe said. ....

Alliance Airlines recently announced it would operate three day trips from Brisbane to Winton, starting in May, providing an all inclusive trip for guests to explore the town and all of its attractions. Winton Shire Mayor Gavin Baskett said it was a fantastic idea and a win for the community, allowing people who wouldnât otherwise have the chance, to travel to the iconic town. âIt gives time poor people who are, for lack of a better word, cashed up, the opportunity to travel out to Winton on a day trip and to experience a couple of great attractions, have a big steak in one of our local pubs and be back in their own bed that night,â he said. ....
Premium Content Subscriber only Barcaldine Regional Council Mayor Sean Dillon is hoping the region experiences a normal tourism season next year after a drop in visitors due to the coronavirus pandemic and enforced travel restrictions. “I hope the tourism products continues to grow and we have a lot for visitors to see and experience in our region,” Cr Dillon said as part of what he was looking forward to in the new year. Council is also expecting to deliver its biggest roadworks program in its history. To assist in attracting more tourists to the region, the Globe Tourist Lookout will begin construction in early 2021. ....
