Covid-19 deaths in Philippines cross 20,000

THE death toll from coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the Philippines breached 20,000 on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, as the Department of Health (DOH) reported 36 additional mortalities.
Ten cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation, DOH said in its case bulletin issued Tuesday.
As of May 25, DOH said 20,019 individuals had died from Covid-19 nationwide.
The case fatality rate declined to 1.68 percent as deaths remained low compared to the new cases, which continued to average more than 5,000 a day over the last seven days.
On Tuesday, May 25, however, new infections declined to less than 4,000 as testing output fell, with 10 laboratories failing to submit their data to the Covid-19 Document Repository System (CDRS). ....

DOH logs nearly 5K new COVID-19 cases

The case bulletin of the Department of Health (DOH) showed 4,973 new cases which brought the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country to 1,184,706.
The tally of COVID-19 survivors rose to 1,115,806 with the addition of 6,666 new recoveries.
The case bulletin also showed 39 new deaths which brought the total to 19,983.
Of the 48,917 active cases, the DOH said, 92.9 percent were mild, 2.0 percent were asymptomatic, 1.6 percent were critical, 2.1 percent were severe, and 1.40 percent were moderate.
The Health department said 21 duplicates were removed from the total case count as 18 of these were recoveries.
“In addition, 58 cases were deactivated after being tagged by their Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Units (RESUs) /City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (CESU) as being duplicates. Of these, 50 are recoveries and seven are deaths,” it said. ....
