Boulder Center for Judaism is proud to announce a virtual class on the topic of the “Sacred and Sensual” given by Rochel Goldbaum of Denver, CO on Thursday, June 10 at 6:00 pm. This is the second in a series of three classes on “Nurturing the Knot.” Rochel Goldbaum is a highly sought-after international speaker who has taught in the Jewish community for over 20 years. Her effervescent joy and engaging style has drawn many to her classes and lectures focusing on topics of parenting, self development, marital harmony and intimacy in the Jewish home. In addition to her teaching, Rochel is a dating and relationships coach and mentor of other professionals. Originally from New Jersey, Rochel now lives in Denver, Colorado, and is the proud mother of seven children. ....
Ten years ago, I lost my 16-year-old son Jesse, to suicide and I wrote an article for the Boulder Jewish News, about the loss, the community response, and some things people could do to support suicide prevention efforts. At the time, I didn’t really care whether suicide was a “Jewish Issue” that belonged in this newspaper. With the passage of time, I have thought about writing something again but wondered if it was an appropriate topic for this forum. After all, suicide is prohibited by most major religions. In traditional Judaism, a person who dies by suicide cannot be buried inside the cemetery gates and the family is not to sit shiva for one who dies by suicide. Thankfully, this view is changing, with an understanding that suicide is not an act of rebellion against G-d, but rather a result of a struggle with mental health issues. For my family, following the death of my son, the outpouring of love and support from our Jewish community was life saving. ....

Comments Off on JFS Boulder Distributes Chanukah Bags to Older Adult Communities Due to social distancing and other safety practices, JFS Boulder was not able to host traditional Chanukah celebrations in older adult communities this year like we have in the past. However, we have found creative solutions to bring the holidays to the community! With generous contributions from community members, older adults and people with disabilities in the Boulder County area received holiday bags in time for Chanukah. Bags included sufganiyah, gelt, dreidels, mini LED menorahs, and holiday greetings. Collin Miller and friends A special shout out to Fairview student Colin Miller, who has organized the student’s donation of sufganiyah to JFS for the past four years. The 60 recipients were either part of our Friendly Visitor or Care Management programs or were referred from local synagogues or retirement communities. ....
