Gov. Inslee is in West Seattle right now during a daylong tour of the metro area, signing bills. He has just arrived at the
HEAL Act (SB 5141), which he says will “set a course toward a more healthy and equitable future with greater environmental justice for all Washingtonians.” The Longhouse is hosting a celebratory event for the occasion, both inside and outside.

OLYMPIA, Wash. The Washington House has approved a capital gains tax on the sale of high-profit stocks and bonds, but its future in the Senate is unclear following changes Democrats made in a House committee.
The measure would impose a 7% tax on the sale of stocks, bonds and other high-end assets in excess of $250,000 for both individuals and couples. Retirement accounts, homes, farms and forestry would be exempt.
The measure would take effect Jan. 1 and is expected to bring in about $450 million a year. Opponents have argued that it’s a tax on income that is illegal in the state, and the debate is certain to end up in court if it becomes law. ....

Seattle activist, attorney Nikkita Oliver launches bid for City Council seat

Seattle activist, attorney and spoken word poet Nikkita Oliver launched their bid for City Council on Wednesday, ending months of speculation from supporters that they would run for elected office again in 2021.
In a campaign announcement on Twitter, Oliver stated their intention to run for Council Position 9 which will be vacated by current Council President Lorena Gonzalez who is running for mayor.
Oliver ran for mayor in 2017 and narrowly missed snagging a place on the ballot for the Seattle Peoples Party, finishing third overall behind current mayor Jenny Durkan who will not be seeking reelection and urban planner Cary Moon. ....
