Hailey Kilgore has made the leap from Happy Valley to Hollywood.
The onetime Clackamas County resident will appear in the much-anticipated (and much-delayed) Aretha Franklin biopic, “Respect,” scheduled for an Aug. 13 release. Watch the new trailer for the movie closely, and you can spot Kilgore as Carolyn Franklin, Aretha’s younger sister, who not only sang backup for the Queen of Soul, but also wrote songs with and for her. Carolyn Franklin died of cancer in 1988 at age 43.
Kilgore is in heady company in her first feature film. Academy and Grammy Award winner Jennifer Hudson plays the lead role. Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker plays C.L. Franklin, the noted pastor and civil rights activist who was Aretha’s father. Broadway star Audra McDonald plays Franklin’s older sister and backup singer Erma. 'Genius: Aretha' gets online world premiere ahead of NatGeo debut

It wasn’t exactly your traditional red-carpet glitz and flashing cameras not during a pandemic. But National Geographic’s new Aretha Franklin series got a splashy, high-profile premiere Thursday evening nonetheless.
The eight-part “Genius: Aretha,” which will kick off on NatGeo March 21, was celebrated with a virtual event for online guests and media.
The festivities were also beamed in for an invite-only slate of guests at Monroe Street Drive In, the downtown Detroit movie space recently set up by Emagine and Bedrock. Drive-in events were also staged in New York and Los Angeles, along with Atlanta, where the show was filmed. ....
