It wasn’t exactly your traditional red-carpet glitz and flashing cameras not during a pandemic. But National Geographic’s new Aretha Franklin series got a splashy, high-profile premiere Thursday evening nonetheless. The eight-part “Genius: Aretha,” which will kick off on NatGeo March 21, was celebrated with a virtual event for online guests and media. The festivities were also beamed in for an invite-only slate of guests at Monroe Street Drive In, the downtown Detroit movie space recently set up by Emagine and Bedrock. Drive-in events were also staged in New York and Los Angeles, along with Atlanta, where the show was filmed. ....
