'My Hero Zero' Takes The Stage At THON For Its Eleventh Year

My Hero Zero returned to THON yet again this year to electrify the (virtual) crowd with an energetic set to close out Saturday night.
For the eleventh year, My Hero Zero took the stage and played some classic songs and some original music for its virtual audience. The band is a State College favorite, has played in multiple bars around town, and is active in the community.
The band’s front man, Jason O, reminisced on THON 2020, saying that it was the band’s last time performing on a big stage, and how it felt great to be in that setting again. ....

Community members rally donations for people displaced by Inn of Waterloo fire

Donations are pouring in for the 130 men who were displaced by the fire at the Inn of Waterloo earlier this week.
Community members have donated clothes and toiletries to those staying in the temporary shelter where the fire occurred.
I sent out an email yesterday asking for clothing for the men that lost everything in the fire at the Waterloo Inn and things really exploded, said Karen Dixon with Emmanuel United Church.
The fire happened on Tuesday night in the tower operating as a temporary shelter through House of Friendship. Then men staying in the spaces lost their belongings. ....

Community overwhelmingly offers support of men impacted by fire at shelter
Emmanuel United Church in Waterloo put out a call for items Thursday morning to help the men at a House of Friendship shelter impacted by a fire Tuesday evening. By early afternoon, they had reached capacity for items and had received offers of support from Hamilton and the U.S.

Weed residents 'SLAPPback' at law firm for role in Roseburg lawsuit

The Public Participation Project said SLAPPs are effective because even meritless lawsuits can take years and thousands of dollars to defend.
In 2017, Siskiyou County Superior Court Judge Karen Dixon agreed Roseburg’s suit was a SLAPP and dismissed the charges against WCWC and The Weed 9.
Roseburg then appealed the dismissal. In December of 2019 – after the City of Weed agreed to to settle the original lawsuit and acknowledge it has no ownership of water from Beaughan Springs, Roseburg agreed to withdraw their claims.
As part of the judgement, Roseburg agreed to pay the city $50,000 towards attorneys’ fees and costs incurred by the matter. Both the city and Roseburg waived the right to recover any additional fees or costs. ....

Daniel H. French, 83
Daniel H. French, an attorney and school teacher, died on his 83rd birthday, surrounded by family.
Mr. French attended the University of Michigan, and then Western Michigan University where he earned his undergraduate degree. In between stints in college, he sailed with the Merchant Marine on the Great Lakes and around the world. He went on to earn his law degree from Detroit College of Law with an interest in civil rights.
Mr. French practiced law for nearly 40 years in Cassopolis. In 2004, he and his family moved to Florida where he pursued his lifetime interest in teaching, and taught middle school and high school in the Miami area. ....
