Reply (Karena Garrity) ESSEX, CT Although the thermometer mercury was into the 90s on Wednesday, This Is Us star Justin Hartley was adorned in dark jeans and a heavy winter jacket, in downtown Essex as he and the Netflix crew filmed scenes for the upcoming movie, The Noel Diary directed by Oscar-nominated veteran director Charles Shyer. As locals walked the sidewalks in shorts and tank tops, Hartley and fellow actors were kept inside Olive Oyl s and Gris Goods, in the air conditioning, until they emerged to shoot scenes in the 90-degree sweltering summer weather, in long pants, turtlenecks and winter coats. The actors and crew filmed into the night hours, in a snow-covered, transformed downtown Essex, after being delayed by passing thunderstorms early in the evening. Attracting a group of onlookers, the professionals went about their business making sure the lighting was just right, the snow looked real and the set was quiet while filming. ....

This has been a difficult year for many, but most of all for those who have lost loved ones to the coronavirus. (Karena Garrity) ESSEX, CHESTER, DEEP RIVER, CT Foodies take note; the winners of the annual Connecticut Magazine Reader s Choice Poll are in and the Tri-Town community of Essex, Chester and Deep River is well represented. In all, 320 restaurants throughout the state made the list in 36 categories ranging from cuisine to overall excellence. The overall excellence expert s pick category is of considerable recognition because only 15 restaurants make this prestigious list each year. According to the Connecticut Magazine article, these restaurants are selected independently of the reader s choice survey results and represent the best in Connecticut dining. ....
Reply Downtown Chester is getting a Wi-Fi upgrade. (Karena Garrity) CHESTER, CT Thanks to the reinstated Connecticut Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP), the downtown area of Chester will have enhanced Wi-Fi and internet connection soon. STEAP grants have returned to the state, to help fund capital improvement projects in 94 small towns. Chester s grant is for $85,744. Terms of the grant call for the town to kick in $10,000 for a total of $95,744 to be used to implement public Wi-Fi and internet connection throughout the downtown area, by fitting adapters to the streetlights. According to First Selectwoman Lauren Gister, currently, cell and internet service is less than stellar in the area, and the addition of this technology upgrade will help not only the business owners and economic development but also visitors and emergency communications. ....
