Cyber attack still having major impact on hospital Emergency Departments

Hospital Emergency Departments are one of those most impacted by the attack on the Health Service Executive IT system.
Dr Gareth Quinn is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine at University Hospital Limerick.
He says the ED has changed beyond recognition since last Friday’s cyber-attack.
“It’s only now we’re realising I think how reliant we are on IT to do the job. Our ED in Limerick is a very busy department with maybe 250 patients coming through every day.”
“We have an IT tracking system that allows us to keep track of those patients and we know who is in the department, where they are, whether they’ve been seen, how long they’ve been waiting, what doctor has seen them and whether a bed has been booked and so on. All of that is gone and we’re back to paper.” ....

Irish open source data collaboration platform TerminusDB has raise €3.6m in seed funding.
The company said the funds will be used to hire new staff who will help the startup to grow its user base and launch new products.
The Trinity College spinout, which was founded three years ago, is to receive the funding from Volta Ventures with participation by Acequia Capital.
Atlantic Bridge University Bridge Fund and Enterprise Ireland, who are already investors in the company, are also to invest again.
Funding from such high-quality investors is an endorsement of TerminusDB s technology and approach, said Kevin Feeney, CEO of TerminusDB. ....

Vena Energy-Australia has named Doosan GridTech as its engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) partner to build Queensland’s largest energy storage system. This battery energy storage system (BESS) will play a major role in improving grid stability and supporting the state’s shift to renewable energy. Located near Wandoan in the state’s southwest region, the BESS will have a discharge capacity of 100MW and deliver 150MWh enough to provide power for 57,000 homes. ....
