A Leigh mum has praised her son after he lodged a petition with Southend Council to build a skatepark.
Joshua Lewsey, who turned 13 on Wednesday, is seeking for a skatepark to be built in Oakwood Park.
The move comes as nearby parks’ skate ramps have become run down. The nearest skatepark to Joshua’s Leigh home is an hour’s walk away.
With other teenagers spending the coronavirus pandemic constantly staring at screens while home-schooling and playing video games, Joshua’s mum, Lauren Chalk, is proud of the youngster for looking to benefit the community in these tough times. ....

Covid rates are now below 100 cases per 100,000 people
Seven-day Covid-19 infection rates in Enfield and Haringey have dropped below 100 new cases per 100,000 people.
The infection rates in both boroughs are significantly below the UK average and lower than those in most other local authorities in London.
It came as Prime Minister Boris Johnson unveiled a roadmap out of lockdown in England, which could see all restrictions lifted from June 21.
Enfield, which had one of the highest rates in the country at the beginning of January, saw just 72 new cases of the virus per 100,000 people in the seven days to February 17 – a 41 per cent drop compared to the previous week. ....

SOUTH HURON – A public meeting Feb. 8 for a large subdivision being proposed north of Grand Bend on the east side of Highway 21 gave the public the opportunity to share their concerns and ask questions about the project.
Residents expressed a long list of concerns during the four-hour online meeting which included South Huron council and staff, planners and representatives from the developer, Tridon Group. Major areas of concern about the two-phase project include traffic on Highway 21, potential flooding on neighbouring properties, the appropriateness of the project in the Port Bla ....
