For as long as she can remember, Nicole Walters, 36, has been a problem solver.
“I was the kid who started the trash bag brigade when I was younger, because we all needed to get together and pick up trash to clean up our neighborhood,” Walters, 36, tells GMA. “You know, I just looked at a problem and knew that I wanted to solve it.” ....

In my October 2020 Annual Report on the State of Public Health in Canada, I looked at how the COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the health, social and economic well-being of people in Canada. The findings were troubling but not unexpected – while COVID-19 has impacted all of us, these impacts have been worse for some groups, including racialized communities.
When we look at outcomes related to COVID-19, it is clear that race matters. Although race-based data are not consistently available across all of Canada, local sources indicate that racialized communities are being disproportionately impacted by COVID-19. For example, surveillance data from Toronto and Ottawa indicates that COVID-19 cases are 1.5 to 5 t ....

The Texas Southern debate team is world renown. After the passing of its founding coach, Dr. Thomas F. Freeman, the torch has been passed to Dr. Gloria Batiste-Roberts.
As the new head coach of the debate team, Batiste-Roberts has done nothing but lead the team to more victories and successes.
“Dr. Gloria is an amazing coach and mentor to myself and multiple current and former students,” Nahab Fahnbulleh, debate team president said. “I couldn’t imagine anybody else more qualified to lead the team in carrying on its amazing legacy.” ....

And for many people, she’ll be the first vice president who looks like them.
When Riya Amin was growing up, she said she was the only Indian girl in her elementary school. Her parents emigrated from India and moved to Cleveland before she was born. 
It was hard to understand at that age why she didn’t look like other girls, or why she was the only vegetarian. At the time, she said there wasn’t as much cultural understanding. 
“It was pretty difficult for me growing up,” said Amin, 26, who now lives in Northfield. “It’s made me a little stronger now.” ....
