the photo I used ten years ago when the blog began Kaitlyn Dunnett/Kathy Lynn Emerson here. As I was trying to think what to write about this time around, and contemplating the possibility of collecting some of my previous blogs into a book, it occurred to me to count just how many I’ve written since Maine Crime Writers launched nearly ten years ago. The serendipitous total was 249, making this lucky number 250. Consider this a retrospective. No, I won’t go through all 249 topics again, or share the entire treasure trove of photos used in early blogs I’d forgotten I had on my computer the ones that vanished from our blog archive when we revamped the site but I will share that a look at the titles alone was enough to convince me that it will be pretty simple to organize them into topics. My very first blog’s title ”I Kill People for a Living” may very well work as the title for the entire collection. ....
Next week at Maine Crime Writers there will be posts by Kaitlyn Dunnett/Kathy Lynn Emerson (Monday), Kate Flora (Tuesday), Brenda Buchanan (Thursday) and Vaughn Hardacker (Friday). next book (August 2021) but utilizing a floor plan I’ve used before Here’s the thing: at least in my case, not everything I’ve written has been snapped up by a publisher. It’s a rare writer who sells his or her first attempt at a novel or short story and has continuous success ever after. Since I’m a firm believer in avoiding waste, I look on all my unsold projects, both complete and incomplete, as material that can be cannibalized. Some bits are more useful than others. In fact, some bits have ended up being recycled into more than one novel. ....

In the news department, here’s what’s happening with some of us who blog regularly at Maine Crime Writers: from Sandra Neily: In addition to watching the cove freeze (a ZEN pandemic thing) I’ve been sending out some special things to readers. (I really miss library talks where the conversation is always unpredictable and valuable: full of sharing. ) In celebration of the birds and bats I got to know while researching my latest book, I am giving away a half-day, winter birding trip (for 2) at Downeast Nature Tours.
