The Maritime Transport Act will be amended to enable Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji (MSAF) to issue licences instead of having to go through the ministry itself, says Economy Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
“This is to ensure the licences are vetted clearly and in a timely manner and then of course, drawing up processes and the bureaucracy gets removed,” he said while delivering the 2021-2022 National Budget last Friday.
“We are also removing a number of marine regulations, removing the requirement to obtain a permit to take items on board.”
Mr Sayed-Khaiyum also said they were removing the need to obtain permits for provisioning and bunkering to refuel vessels.
