At last month’s board meeting, Steamship Authority general manager Robert Davis was lauded for his efforts over the past year. Davis received high marks for his ability to handle the curve balls thrown at him  the pandemic, a ransomware attack, and the seemingly endless and costly change orders to the Woods Hole terminal project among them. 
We were a bit stunned by it all, frankly. It left us wondering what the board saw that customers of the Steamship Authority don’t. In all of this we want to make one point perfectly clear. Our dissatisfaction with the SSA isn’t about the rank and file employees of the SSA. When it comes to customer service, the front-facing job of the SSA, many of them have proven themselves excellent at their jobs and go above and beyond to assist passengers. ....

New Zealand Fashion industry rebuilds after Covid-19 lockdown


Stewart was the creator and managing director behind NZ Fashion Week for nearly 20 years, until she sold the business earlier this year. She received the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to fashion and the community in 2012.
She’s previously been a judge at the Hokonuis, and says the annual competition in Gore plays an important part in the industry.
“It sparks an interest in young designers and gives them a chance to be really creative and that’s not always possible when you also have to be commercial,’’ she said.
“It gives them an insight into working to deadlines, having to make something to a product size and how to think about how it will look on a catwalk – all fundamental things that designers need to know how to do.’’ ....

If first impressions count then entries at this year’s Hokonui Fashion Design Awards have been a hit with the judges, who got to cast their eyes over them for the first time on Thursday.
