DVIDS - News - Kathryn Balonek Joins NAVFAC Washington as Head of Contracting


Kathryn Balonek, former contracting director for Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Far East, has assumed duty as NAVFAC Washington Contracting Business Line Leader.
Balonek began her federal career at NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic in Norfolk, Va. in 2006 as an intern in the Naval Acquisition Development Program before graduating to the role of contract specialist. In 2012, she moved on to serve as a contract specialist for NAVFAC EUAFCENT in Naples, Italy, and remained there for three years. She returned to the United States to work at Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a supervisory contract specialist for a year before returning to NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic in 2016, this time as Contracting Division Director, A&E, Construction and Utilities. In 2018, she took over as Contracting Director for NAVFAC Far East. ....

NEWPORT, R.I. – Two retired Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport employees, Martin “Marty” Moebus and Dr. Kimberly Cipolla, have received Department of the Navy (DON) Meritorious Civilian Service Awards, the third highest honorary civilian award bestowed by the U.S. Navy.
Moebus, a resident of Norwich, Connecticut, earned his award for accomplishments as chief strategic analyst in the Strategic Planning Office, from November 2014 through his retirement in July 2020, after a 40-year career. He supported Division Newport leadership in establishing key long-term objectives, identifying strategies in critical business and technical areas, and implementing strategic guidance and actions.
Moebus served as the Naval Acquisition Development Program field career manager, guiding more than 100 interns through the first years of their career, and helped create high velocity learning communication and training plans, which rolled out across the N ....

MARINE CORPS AIR STATION CHERRY POINT, N.C. – When it comes to keeping tabs on assets, aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities can present a special set of challenges. Components move through various stages of assembly and disassembly, in and out of different shops, until the final product comes back together and moves back into the supply chain.
At Fleet Readiness Center East, a team of logisticians developed a tracking system that allows for all these variables while maintaining real-time visibility of the item’s location – and the system helped FRCE pass a Navy Working Capital Fund Supply Management audit with flying colors. When asked to locate 833 assets in 54 categories, FRCE completed the task with 100 percent accountability while only having to supply five instances of key supporting documents, or KSDs.
