MEADFA to outline industry recovery proposals in Advocacy Group webinar

The Middle East and Africa Duty Free Association (MEADFA) is to outline its proposals for the recovery of the industry in the region during an advocacy working group webinar on 29 March 2021
(3pm UAE time).
Moderated by John Hume, Managing Partner, Hume Brophy, the hour-long session will be dedicated to the recovery of DF&TR in the Middle East and Africa from an advocacy perspective.
A reported, MEADFA held its first virtual event on 7 October 2020, which revealed how the industry in the region is fighting against the impact of the pandemic.
The webinar will feature presentations from Sarah Branquinho, President, Duty Free World Council, Rita Chidiac, Secretary General, MEADFA Advocacy Working Group and Alan Murray Hayden, Head of Airport, Passenger and Security Products, IATA. ....

APTRA looks to address 'challenging' packaging requirements in Hainan

The Asia Pacific Travel Retail Association (APTRA) has revealed it is working with members to address concerns over challenging packaging requirements on Hainan Island.
Responding to a question during the recent
Duty Free World Council 2021 — The Year of the Recovery webinar, Christina Oliver, Executive Director, APTRA, said she understood brands had to follow local regulations on the island from a domestic standpoint and that duty free standard labelling was not permitted.
Oliver commented: “We have pulled an Asia Pacific alcohol working group together to have a look at this. It is one of their concerns. In addition, we have reached out to our colleagues on confectionery because this is usually a tough labelling situation.” ....

DFWC urges caution on IATA digital travel solutions | Travel Retail Business

The Duty Free World Council (DFWC) is urging the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to consider the implications for duty and tax free retail when working on passenger travel passes, digital facial recognition and other solutions ahead of the future growth in passenger volumes.
Sarah Branquinho, President, DFWC expressed her concerns at the beginning of this week’s DFWC 2021 — The Year of the Recovery webinar.
She said: “For our industry, the concern is that replacing boarding passes with digital facial recognition may leave us with challenges in terms of fulfilling our agreements with Customs authorities.
“Digital facial recognition could also have an impact on passengers’ perception of speed of travel through airports and reduce dwell time, while governments and citizens will be concerned about the protection of personal data. ....

Latest Duty Free World Council mapping the road to recovery takes place this week

The Duty Free World Council (DFWC) 2021 — The Year of the Recovery webinar will take place on Wednesday 3 February from 14:00 to 15:30 CET.
A keynote presentation from ACI World will highlight latest air traffic data globally and regionally and will look ahead to the aviation industry recovery trajectory.
Content also includes updates from the Council, regional associations and the Tax Free World Association on efforts to garner support for the industry in these challenging times.
Sarah Branquinho, President, DFWC commented: “Previous webinars have been very well received by attendees.
“I am sure the latest data and forecasts from ACI, and updates from the regional associations and TFWA will be a huge benefit to industry stakeholders as they plan their way forward in 2021 and beyond. I encourage all industry stakeholders to participate in this event.” ....
