New York, April 27 (CNA) A virtual reality film featuring Malaysian-born, Taiwan-based director Tsai Ming-liang (蔡明亮) in the lead role will premiere in a lineup of immersive films at New York s Tribeca Film Festival this June, the festival announced Tuesday.
Missing Pictures Episode 2: Tsai Ming-liang is the second installment in a series of documentary shorts by French filmmaker Clément Deneux that focuses on directors favorite stories that they were never able to bring to the big screen.
The film, which can be viewed using VR headsets such as the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, was one of 11 to be selected for the Virtual Arcade (virtual reality) category of the festival s immersive cinema lineup, which was announced on Tuesday. ....

New York, April 21 (CNA) A book of verse by Taiwanese poet Amang (阿芒) and American translator Steve Bradbury has been named winner of the PEN Award for Poetry in Translation, a first for a Taiwanese author.
Raised by Wolves: Poems and Conversations was awarded the annual prize by the literary and human rights organization PEN America for break(ing) new ground with its approach to translation as one of discovery.
Rather than offering one definitive translation for each poem, the book often presents multiple English versions, accompanied by dialogues between the poet and translator, documenting what the award citation calls the messy collaborative process behind the printed page. ....

New York, April 19 (CNA) Beijing s non-military coercive actions against Taiwan, such as diplomatic isolation and political interference, are intended to break down the psychological confidence of its people and may be of greater concern than an actual military threat, an American foreign policy analyst said Monday.

New York, April 18 (CNA) A microfilm promoting cycling tourism in Taiwan was featured last week at the Asian Pop-Up Cinema (APUC), a semi-annual film festival that aims to foster an appreciation for diverse Asian cultures through film.
The nearly four-minute Go Cycling and Feel the Sensation (台灣,感覺真實的自己) was aired prior to the Taiwanese film Dear Tenant (親愛的房客) at the APUC festival at a drive-in event at Lincoln Yards in Chicago on April 16.
According to the Tourism Bureau, the microfilm was screened to drum up interest in Taiwan among American viewers and promote the country s cycling tourism to the world. ....
