Amazingly, Labor will not make changes to the stage three income tax cuts if it wins the upcoming federal election.
The legislated tax cuts are due to take effect as from 1 July 2024 and will see a 30% tax rate applied to all income between $45,000 and $200,000, while the 37% tax rate will be abolished.
It has been estimated the tax cuts will cost $137 billion between the date of their implementation and the end of the decade.

Book by Taiwanese author wins U.S. prize for poetry in translation

New York, April 21 (CNA) A book of verse by Taiwanese poet Amang (阿芒) and American translator Steve Bradbury has been named winner of the PEN Award for Poetry in Translation, a first for a Taiwanese author. Raised by Wolves: Poems and Conversations was awarded the annual prize by the literary and human rights organization PEN America for break(ing) new ground with its approach to translation as one of discovery.
Rather than offering one definitive translation for each poem, the book often presents multiple English versions, accompanied by dialogues between the poet and translator, documenting what the award citation calls the messy collaborative process behind the printed page.
The annual presentation of PEN America’s literary awards and career achievement honors was produced digitally for a second year.

The winners of the 2021 PEN America Literary Awards were announced in their first-ever online ceremony since the Awards began 57 years ago. It was hosted by Kara Young and featured many guest appearances, including Whoopi Goldberg and Viola Davis. In total, $380,000 in prizes were awarded to a diverse range of writers, translators, poets, editors, journalists, and others. Although they were not able to host the usual festivities, the online ceremony is available to watch in its entirety on Youtube!
